Pick of the Rausch Herd Each year Rausch Herefords offers pick of the 1200 females in the herd in the January Denver Sale. The pick is to be made in August or September when the buyer has the privilege to see the dams and calves in their breeding pasture alone with the sire the dams are exposed to. All herd books are open to the buyer along with the HerdMASTER soft ware program. Animals can be sorted on any trait. Lists of animals in their breeding pasture are provided the buyer in advance of the pasture tours. January 16, 2009 Thanks to the Doug and Jenny Howe family for purchasing the 2009 Pick of the Herd in the Denver Sale.

Austin and Andre Howe, sons of Doug and Jenny Howe, and herdsman Cody Helms went through the Rausch herd with Vern, Jerry and Harlan Rausch to select their female choice of the herd recently. The Rausches recommended the selection process to be done in August or September so the buyer can see the sire, dam, calf and the sire the dam was exposed to all at the same time in their natural environment. They selected R Miss Patend 326, a March two year old daughter of R Patend 2082 and out of a JDF 16D Wrangler 15 daughter. Her EPDs are CED 4.5, BW 1.0, WW 45, YW 79, Milk 24, CEM 2.2, SC 0.8, Fat 0.008, REA 0.48, Marbling -0.14, BMI $15, CEZ $18, BII $12 and CHB $19. They plan to use the bull calf on their replacement heifers. Congratulations to Deana Jak Farms! 2007 Pick of the Herd
Aaron returned in September to make his final selection. Jerry Rausch, the main tour guide of the 1,200 head plus Hereford females, said it was an honor to take such a knowledgeable gentleman as Aaron through the breeding pastures. The final pick was HR Miss Ozzie 455 a daughter of HR Oswald 137L. She is a three year old with her second calf and well on her way to becoming a Dam of Distinction cow in the Hereford breed. She is currently bred to R Wrangler 2414. Her mother and grandmother are also Dams of Distinction. “I was very impressed with the depth of quality in the Rausch program. It was an awesome experience to sort through that many good Hereford cows,” said Glascock.
