Rausch Herefords 48th Annual Sale

The 48th annual Rausch Hereford sale was a grand success with standing room only and a more than equal number of viewers on the World Wide Web. A significant number of animals sold on the internet and on order from 10 states that ranged from CA to WV.

 

Auctioneer Joe Goggins sold the 300 polled, horned and dehorned lots in three hours.  The weather co-operated for people to travel from all directions and for the animals to enjoy the sun as the new owners looked them over.

 

Top-selling two-year old bull was Lot# 38, GR Advancer 1074, a 03/14/04 horned son of KS Advance 722 and out of a Perkins Dam-of-Distinction cow with EPDs of BW 3.9, WW 53, YW 80, Milk 22 and REA of 0.10. This super-thick bull caught a lot of attention and was purchased through DV Auction by Bob Rankin of Draper, SD, for $7,000.

 

Lot #43, HR Oswald 430, a 04/11/04 horned son of HR Oswald 137 and out of a Perkins cow and had EPDs of BW 5.0, WW 49, YW 84 and Milk of 21. 430 sold to Rod Cleveland of Presho, SD for $5,500.

 

Rod Cleveland also purchased Lot #40 for $5,250. R Domino 4724 is a 04/20/04 son of RR Domino 389 with EPDs of BW 6.0, WW 53, YW 76 and Milk of 17.

 

Lot #48, R Navigator 5764, also sold for $5,250 and went to David Thompson of Walcott, ND. 5764, a 05/09/04 son of R Navigator 2101 and out of Patend cow and had EPDs of BW 3.8, WW 47, YW 87, Milk 12 and REA of 0.27.

 

Lot # 86 R Puckster 4104 out of herd sire Bar JZ Puckster 892H and Miss Domino 1202 sold to Collin Leslie of Lemmon, SD for $5250.  He had EPDs of BW 1.1 WW 44 YW 70 and Milk 10.

 

Three yearling bulls sold for $5,000 each.

 

K&B Herefords of Onida, SD purchased Lot #6, R Wrangler 2145, a polled 03/17/05 son of JDF 16D Wrangler 15 and out of a Commander cow. 2145 was a top herd bull prospect and had EPDs of BW 4.5, WW 47, YW 76 and Milk of 22.

 

Lot #25, R Pathfinder 4035, a polled 04/01/05 son of EPHR Pathfinder 567K and out of a Dams-of-Distinction Wrangler cow, was purchased by Mike Stahly of Cavour, SD. 4035 has a birth weight of 91 lbs. and EPDs of BW 3.9, WW 47, YW 80, Milk 20 and a REA of 0.32.

 

Lot #35, HR Oswald 571, an 04/18/05 son of HR Oswald 137 and was very thick and heavy boned with a YW EPD of 92. 571 sold to Bob Hermann of Lemmon, SD for $5,000.

 

Lot #9, R Wrangler 2245, a 03/20/05 son of JDF 16D Wrangler 15 and out of a Navigator dam with a birth weight of 88 lbs. and EPDs of BW 2.8, WW 53, YW 84, Milk 20 and a REA of 0.35! 2245 sold to Wayne Stuwe of Hoven, SD for $4,000.

 

The registered heifers sold well with four selling for over $2,000.

 

Lot #104 was the top-seller going to Ravine Creek Ranch of Huron, SD, for $4,000. R Miss Puckster 1435, an 04/12/05 daughter of R Puckster 2013 and out of a Standard Lad 23J cow. This good heifer had a birth weight of 71 lbs. and EPDs of BW 0.1, WW 43, YW 70 and Milk of 21.

 

Lot #110, R Miss Hunter 925, an 04/03/05 daughter of HH Hunter 531M and out of a Master Plan cow had a birth weight of 88 lbs. and EPDs of BW 4.2, WW 49, YW 75 and Milk of 12. Craig Covey of Hamill, SD bought this heifer for $2,300.

 

Lot #102 sold to Bobbie Kerslake of Oregon for $2,200. R Miss Gold Star 1025 was an 04/05/05 daughter of Four L Gold Star 342 with a birth weight of 81 lbs. and EPDs of BW 2.9, WW 41, YW 75 and Milk of 24.

 

Lot #111, R Miss Hunter 1565, was purchased by Mike Flatten of Madison, SD for $2,200. 1565, an 04/15/05 daughter of HH Hunter 531M and out of a Starfire daughter with EPDs of BW 5.5, WW 49, YW 81 and Milk of 16.

 

Sold were 174 head of commercial heifers, most of which could be registered if the buyer elected to do so. The first eighteen heifers in the ring commanded a price of $1,450 per head. Volume buyer of the commercial heifers was North Ridge Ranch of Pierre, SD.

 

This was the best sale of the 48 Rausch Hereford sales. It reflected the better cattle market and the renewed interest in the Hereford breed.
